"The Guide Hut" was originally built as the Black Ridge Provisional School, near Clermont in Central Queensland, about 1906. In 1928 it was dismantled and railed to Traveston to replace an original building there. Traveston school closed in 1967 and Cooroy Guides purchased the building in 1968. The verandahs were enclosed in 1981 and the building was raised and enclosed underneath with concrete blocks in 1986. Our Group took up residence in December, 1999 and has developed the ground floor as the library and research centre whilst using the upper floor as a meeting and reading room. The atmosphere is very sociable and researchers are invited to join in "a cuppa and biscuits" during the regular research sessions. (Abridged from research by Betty Sutton.)
There are three computers, including a current model IBM Aptiva. There are ample microfiche readers, a current model photocopier and also a new 600 dpi scanner.
